PIP - Posey Invasive Partnership
Mission Statement- The Posey Invasive Partnership is determined to provide Posey County with the resources necessary to manage invasive species through cooperative education, prevention, and control.
About
PIP is a local citizens group that includes landowners, staff of local recreational areas and agencies that are dedicated to the mission of promoting the health of native plants and trees, including the removal of invasive, exotic plants that harm native flora.
Native plants are an intricate part of our surroundings, and their absence or extinction has reverberating impacts on all aspects of our ecosystem, hampering its sustainable functioning.
Current Projects Include:
-
Weed Wrangles on public lands—Hovey Lake, Harmonie State Park, Brittlebank Park
-
Adopt a highway—HWY 69 just south of HWY 62, combined with removal of exotics
-
Involving Youth Project, working with youth/school groups to promote native spaces
-
Developing and maintaining 4 native plant gardens in Posey County including a healing garden at Brittlebank Park in Mount Vernon, a pollinator garden at Marrs Township Community Park, a butterfly garden at First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, and a raised native garden atrium at North Posey Junior High
-
